Former Dow Jones & Co. President TODD LARSEN “is expected to be named the head of a combined news and sports group at Time Warner Inc.’s magazine unit." In his new role, Larsen “will oversee some of Time Inc.’s high profile titles, including Time, Fortune and Sports Illustrated.” The announcement comes nine months after Time Inc. CEO LAURA LANG was hired, and the creation of the news and sports group “reverses a decision by Ms. Lang’s predecessor” (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 9/4).

HOOPS HYPE: The Clippers promoted Dir of Player Personnel GARY SACKS to VP/Basketball Operations. Sacks takes over for NEIL OLSHEY, who became Trail Blazers GM (ESPN.com, 9/4). Sacks is “entering his 19th season with the team, having served as director of player personnel for the last two seasons.” Sacks “beat out several candidates who had expressed interest in the position," including former Nuggets and Nets GM KIKI VANDEWEGHE and Cavaliers VP/Basketball Operations DAVID GRIFFIN (L.A. TIMES, 9/5)....NBA league sources say the Spurs named former Knicks President & GM SCOTT LAYDEN Assistant GM (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/1)….The Nets promoted KIMBERLEE GARRIS to Entertainment Marketing Dir, JEFF SCOTT to Community Relations Dir, MIKE WISNIEWSKI to Community Relations Coordinator, LATOSHA MATTHEWS to Event Marketing Manager and T.J. ROCHE to Game Presentation Manager. Barclays Center also named MIA HALL Marketing Department Community Manager (Nets).

EXECS: Fox Sports Media Group named former NBC Exec Producer DAVID NEAL "World Cup on Fox" Exec Producer. Neal will develop and execute FIFA World Cup coverage plans for all Fox Sports platforms and design the production infrastructure for FSMG's stadium and studio operations and form the on-air, production and technical teams (Fox Sports)....Learfield Sports named JOE FERREIRA Chief Content Officer. Ferreira will work from Learfield’s Dallas office and have oversight of all Learfield content and distribution platforms (Learfield).…The Padres promoted National Crosschecker BILLY GASPARINO to Dir of Scouting (Padres)….Former NHLer JOHN MADDEN has joined the Canadiens’ front office as part of their “player recruitment group” (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/4)....LOCOG CEO PAUL DEIGHTON has "taken on an even greater challenge" by accepting a Treasury role to get the U.K. economy moving (GUARDIAN, 9/4)….Burberry Global Dir of Social Media Marketing MUSA TARIQ is "set to leave the brand to take up a similar role at Nike." It is "not known when Tariq will take up his position with Nike, or what his exact job title will be" (MARKETINGMAGAZINE.co.uk, 9/4).
