Franchise Notes

In Ft. Worth, Mac Engel wrote the Mavericks should be "honored that the worst team in the NBA is stealing their uniform design." The Bobcats yesterday unveiled new uniforms and Engel wrote, "Their new unis look exactly like your Dallas Mavericks" (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 6/20). In Dallas, a staff report notes, "From the actual jerseys to the font and numbers, everything looks eerily similar to the Mavs' current uniform design" (DALLASNEWS.com, 6/21).

THINGS COULD BE WORSE
: In Memphis, Geoff Calkins writes it is "not ideal that another out-of-town owner may soon" purchase the Grizzlies, if prospective buyer Robert Pera's offer to purchase the team is approved. But it "doesn't have to be a disaster, either." Local commitment is "what brought the Grizzlies to Memphis in the first place, and it may ultimately keep them here" (Memphis COMMERICAL APPEAL, 6/21). Grizzlies Owner Michael Heisley said that the club "contacted business leaders in Memphis to see if anyone local would be interested in buying the team." Heisley said that he "never heard back and moved forward with the sale to Pera." He added, "I don't know who the local group is, OK. Everybody keeps talking about the local group. We went to some people in the community but we assumed they were talking to other people in the community and I don't know who the group is" (WREG.com, 6/20).
