Facility Notes

S.F. city officials "voted unanimously Tuesday to allow the 49ers to break their lease a year early at Candlestick Park in 2014, when construction should be finished on the new Santa Clara stadium." Under the new terms of the lease, the 49ers "will still be required to pay the city of San Francisco the minimum rent on Candlestick" for the '14 season. This new legislation "suggests the city may be on its way to making peace with the move." As part of the provisions for the new lease agreement, the team will donate $1M to the "Recreation and Parks Department, funding groups for San Francisco’s youth" (CSNBAYAREA.com, 6/7).

LANDING SPOT: In Minneapolis, Janet Moore noted private talks "have begun to acquire several key pieces of land" for the new $975M Vikings stadium, "even before the leaders who will oversee its construction have been named.” Owners of the properties are “already talking to city officials about selling their land for the project.” Such deals “must be made swiftly so that construction can be completed in time for the stadium's 2016 debut.” Acquiring the land for the project "isn't expected to be as thorny as it was for Target Field five years ago,” but the Hennepin County morgue and crime lab "could prove to be a hurdle because it would cost millions to move” (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/7).

PAPER TRAIL:
In St. Louis, Todd Frankel notes a judge ruled Thursday the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission “must release more documents related to plans for renovating the Edward Jones Dome for the Rams.” St. Louis County Circuit Judge Bryan Hettenbach ruled that the state's open-records law “applied to documents about potential changes to the Rams' lease of the Dome.” Hettenbach “rejected the CVC's arguments that the documents were excluded from public review because they touched on contract talks and real estate deals” (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/8).

OFF TRACK
: In N.Y., Hakim & Bagli note now that Gov. Andrew Cuomo has “abandoned his dream of building the nation’s largest convention center at the Aqueduct racetrack in Queens, he is handling multiple offers from the gambling industry to develop a combination casino and convention center at other sites around" N.Y. The proposals “involve an array of locations in the city -- from Coney Island to Willets Point to Randalls Island, as well as nearby locales like Yonkers and Belmont Park” (N.Y. TIMES, 6/8).
