Facility Notes

In L.A., David Zahniser reports the Natural Resources Defense Council, which has supported AEG's proposed Farmer's Field, “issued a sharply worded critique Tuesday of environmental documents prepared for the project.” In a 16-page letter to city officials, the NRDC called on AEG “to rewrite and recirculate a recently released environmental impact report on the proposed stadium, saying it failed to fully analyze health risks created by cars that would travel to and from the 72,000-seat facility” (L.A. TIMES, 5/23).

WISHFUL THINKING
: ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael reported boxing promoter Top Rank has talked about putting on a July 14 PPV card at Cowboys Stadium, "but now it looks like the talk is over and there won't be a show.” Originally, Top Rank Chair Bob Arum said that the card “would be headlined by Mexican star Juan Manuel Marquez.” But no deal “had been finalized with a television company to distribute the event and Marquez had no opponent.” The promoter “was talking to HBO about working on the show, and Top Rank certainly could have done it on its own, but time is running short to mount a legitimate" PPV promotion (ESPN.com, 5/22).

DECISIONS, DECISIONS
: EPL club Liverpool Managing Dir Ian Ayre “insists progress is being made on a decision about the club's long-term future home with a new stadium and a redevelopment both still under consideration.” But the PA reports there is “a reluctance from owners Fenway Sports Group to move away from Anfield to a new build in Stanley Park because of the financial implications,” with an investment just over $472M “only delivering an extra 15,000 seats.” Remaining at Anfield has its own problems, however, “as expansion would infringe on the 'right to light' homeowners in the surrounding area are entitled to” (PA, 5/23).

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE: AT&T Monday announced that it has expanded its mobile Internet coverage at TD Garden by installing a new 4G LTE-capable distributed antenna system to serve customers throughout the facility. The installation consists of strategically-placed antennas, providing for more efficient management of wireless capacity in heavily trafficked areas (AT&T).
