ESPN Opens Office For Emerging Technology In Bangalore, India

ESPN has opened an office for its Emerging Technology team in Bangalore, India, the unit's first int'l location. The Bangalore office, also home to ESPN's Cricinfo.com, will help service ESPN's internal sports data repository, the sports data unit supplying ESPN's various television and digital outlets, and will focus particularly on cricket, soccer and rugby data to start. The office will be led by ESPN Dir of Emerging Technology Gopi Pandurangan, who relocated from Bristol, Conn. "This allows us to better serve our global data needs, and is an outgrowth of a refactoring we've done in our (sports data repository)," said ESPN VP/Emerging Technology Anthony Bailey. "We're now where some of these sports are played, and this allows us to tap into local talent."
