In K.C., Randy Covitz notes NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team Owner JOE DENETTE was "out of work" when he won $76.5M from the Mega Millions lottery in May '09. Denette chose a "lump-sum payment of $46 million, which after taxes shrunk to almost $33 million." That was still "more than enough to start a truck team on a part-time basis." It takes about $3M a year to "fully fund a trucks team, and Denette eventually wants to own a Sprint Cup team, which takes at least $20 million to be competitive" (K.C. STAR, 4/18).

IRON CURTAIN CALL: In Las Vegas, Norm Clarke notes MIKE TYSON's one-man show, "UNDISPUTED TRUTH," opened last week at the MGM Grand. The six-day show "ends tonight amid a deluge of interest in his new career." SPI Entertainment CEO ADAM STECK, whose company produced and created the show, said, "We just got a seven-show offer from Australia. We're getting a lot of interest in Europe. We'll just gather the offers and plot it out methodically" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 4/18).

STEADYING THE SHIP: In N.Y., Peter Lattman noted an "accelerating wave of partner defections" from law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf is "now threatening to violate the firm's loan agreements with its banks. Sources said that among the "so-called rainmakers who are crucial to the firm's survival" is Global Litigation Chair JEFFREY KESSLER, who served as outside counsel for the NFLPA and NBPA during each union's collective bargaining negotiations last year (NYTIMES.com, 4/17).

NAMES: Siena College is giving Yankees SS DEREK JETER an honorary degree in recognition of his Turn 2 Foundation. Jeter "won't actually come to the convocation" at Times Union Center to receive his degree (Albany TIMES UNION, 4/17)....Broncos QB PEYTON MANNING will return to Indianapolis on May 5 for the Celebration of Caring Gala, which benefits the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent on the city's north side (AP, 4/17)....Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston CEO JOSH KRAFT, who also serves as President of the Patriots Charitable Foundation, "surprised affiliated kids from Dorchester and South Boston" on Friday with tickets to last Saturday's Capitals-Bruins Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Game Two. Dunkin' Donuts donated the seats (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/18)....Yankees President RANDY LEVINE last month donated the maximum $2,500 to U.S. Sen. IN MEMORY: Sportscaster DOM VALENTINO died yesterday at the age of 83. Valentino did play-by-play for the NBA’s Cincinnati Royals, then joined the Yankees’ radio team in ’75. That year, he also called games for the Nets, who were playing in the ABA, and the Islanders. Valentino also called games for the A’s (AP, 4/17).
