The New Fifth Starter? Aaron Rodgers Takes The Mound In Brewers Ad Campaign

The Brewers yesterday “released the first of a string of promotional spots for the season, many of which feature” Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, according to Don Walker of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The first ad is called "3-Step Drop," and Rodgers is shown using an “unusual pitching delivery as Brewers general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ron Roenicke watch from the stands.” A new spot in the campaign will be release approximately every three weeks, and Rodgers appears “in five ads.” The Brewers said that a “number of the players appear in the ads," including LF Ryan Braun. Walker noted some spots “feature only Brewers' players.” Brewers COO Rick Schlesinger said that players “clamored to be in the ads with Rodgers” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/4).

SOMETHING GOOD IS BREWING: In Milwaukee, Michael Hunt notes the Brewers are "one of the select small-market franchises that do things right." Fans "spin the turnstiles at a rate that makes the franchise far and away the per-capita attendance leader in the major leagues." The team in recent seasons has "consistently drawn 3 million, which continues to make Milwaukee one of the most faithful markets in America." Brewers Owner Mark Attanasio has "held up his end of the bargain by raising payroll each season, turning general manager Doug Melvin loose on game-changing trades and rewarding such loyalty with two playoff appearances in the last four years." Hunt: "Such overachievement by the game's smallest market matched with passionate fandom makes for one of the better marriages in baseball" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/4).
