U.S. Gold Medal-winning figure skater EVAN LYSACEK announced yesterday that he has left CAA and signed with Proper Marketing Associates' SHEP GOLDBERG, who has "represented MICHELLE KWAN for nearly 20 years." In Chicago, Philip Hersh notes CAA's "complete unfamiliarity with figure skating contributed to the contractual impasse with U.S. Figure Skating that derailed Lysacek's plans to return this season after two years away from competition." Goldberg "clearly knows how the sport rolls -- and, perhaps as importantly, how its economic situation has deteriorated in the past decade" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/3).

NEW DEALS: In Phoenix, Doug Haller notes the Arizona State Univ. Board of Regents this week is "expected to approve a five-year contract" for AD & VP/Athletics STEVE PATTERSON, who was promoted last week. The contract runs through March 31, 2017, and Patterson's base salary will be $365,000 per year. That number "may be increased July 1 of each year by an amount determined by the university president." Patterson's performance bonuses include: one week's salary if the "scholarship student-athlete GPA is at least 2.80;" two weeks' salary if the "overall APR average meets or exceeds 978" for the '12-13 academic year; and two weeks' salary for a Top-10 ranking in the Directors' Cup. Patterson also will be "entitled to receive a bonus in an amount up to $75,000 per year based on his achievement of the annual objectives for revenue enhancement, promotion and marketing of the Sun Devils Athletics brand" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/3)....In Dallas, Chuck Carlton reports Univ. of Texas football coach MACK BROWN is "officially under contract" through '20. Brown confirmed yesterday that he had signed the extension last week." He will continue at his present salary of $5.2M "with annual raises of $100,000" (DALLASNEWS.com, 4/2).

HE KEEPS GOING, AND GOING, AND GOING....: Rockies P JAMIE MOYER this morning appeared on NBC’s “TODAY” and co-host Matt Lauer began the interview stating that Moyer "can become the oldest pitcher in major league history to post a victory” when he starts Saturday's game against the Astros. Lauer also talked about the Moyer Foundation, which has "raised I think more than $20 million for kids in crisis." Lauer: "Is that one of the reasons you keep playing, so you can keep bringing attention to that?” Moyer: “It's not really the reason I play, but we've realized that we are in a stage as an athlete, to bring that to the people's attention. We have grief camps and bereavement camps for children. We started those in 2002. We've been able to touch over 8,000 children with 40 camps throughout the country. We feel very fortunate to be on this stage to be able to discuss this and create the awareness for Camp Erin” (“Today,” NBC, 4/3).

Their pleas "bring to six the number of current and former employees who have been convicted in state or federal court of crimes stemming from the scheme" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/3).
