Competitor Group Acquires Three Races For Rock 'N' Roll Series

The Competitor Group, owner of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series of running races, has acquired the Montreal Marathon, the Lisbon Half Marathon and Portugal Half Marathon running events. All three events will become part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll series in '12. The Montreal Marathon event, which is organized by the Marathon Oasis de Montreal company, is comprised of a full 26.2-mile marathon race as well as a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 10k and a 5k race, and this year attracted 25,000 runners between four separate races. The event will be held on Sept. 23. Competitor’s partnership with the Portuguese company Maratona Clube de Portugal will see the Portugal Half Marathon and Lisbon Half Marathon fall under the Rock ‘n’ Roll banner, as well as a 5k women’s specific running race. The Lisbon Half Marathon, which is held in mid-September, attracts 37,000 runners annually. With the acquisitions, the Rock ‘n’ Roll series now has 28 different running races.
