Canadian Sports Channel The Score For Sale At A Steep Price

The Score, a Canadian sports television channel owned by Score Media Inc., “is up for sale,” according to sources cited by Krashinsky & Erman of the GLOBE & MAIL. Sources said that the company "has been asking a steep price" for the 24-hour network -- "as much as" C$200M. Score Media brought in C$7.6M “in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization last year, meaning at that price the channel would cost more than 26 times company earnings.” The Score, Canada's "No. 3 cable sports broadcaster, does not have a lock on nearly as much live sports content as its two biggest rivals, TSN and Rogers Sportsnet." The Score is run mostly “as a sports information network, airing talk and highlight shows,” as well as poker, WWE and NBA games. The channel has been “up for sale many times over the years,” but sources said that it “always had trouble selling because the price was high” (GLOBE & MAIL, 9/21).
