Minor League Baseball Released First Official Triple-A App For iPhone, iPod Touch

Minor League Baseball has released its first official mobile application, "MiLB Triple A" for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Developed by MLBAM, the free app includes live game tracking from the International and Pacific Coast Leagues, player data, news, standings and other content from the two U.S affiliated Triple-A minor leagues. The mobile app release arrives as MiLB.com set two site traffic records this summer with 13.5 million unique visitors in June and then 14.2 million in July, according to internal metrics. For the first four months of the '11 baseball season, the MiLB network has generated an average of 12.9 million unique visitors per month, a 15% increase from last year. Page views have averaged 65 million per month, up 9%. Additionally, more than 20,000 people have signed up for MiLB.TV, a live game video subscription product featuring all of the Triple-A teams, more than 200% higher than '10. That live game video, however, is not currently linked to the new MiLB Triple-A mobile app as is the case in the majors with MLB.com At Bat due to differences in how MLBAM ingests the video. "We're very encouraged by the high traffic volume our network is drawing," said Art Matin, chairman of Baseball Internet Rights Co. (BIRCO), the MiLB subsidiary that holds a joint partnership with MLBAM for the minors' online rights management. "It is reflective of the high degree of interest in Minor League Baseball and the content-rich nature of our team and league sites."
