The AP's Sarah Skidmore reported Nike President & CEO MARK PARKER saw his compensation fall 16% to "about $11 million during fiscal 2011 largely due to a drop in his pay based on the company's performance." The "move to not grant executive long-term incentive pay was one of the biggest reasons behind the decline in Parker's pay from the $13.1 million he received" during FY '10. Parker's salary rose 4% to "about $1.5 million" and the "value of his stock awards held steady at $3.5 million, while the value of his options fell 17 percent to $2.9 million." His incentive compensation, "which was absent the long-term incentive he typically receives," was down 38% to $2.7M. Parker's other compensation, "which includes perks such as contributions to retirement funds," rose 79% to $343,395 (AP, 7/28).

SPORTS & SOCIETY: BILL GATES and Spanish La Liga club FC Barcelona have "agreed to a three-year joint effort to lead the fight to end polio and draw attention to the need for vaccines." The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which has an endowment of $37B, "targeted Barcelona to join the education campaign because of the club's enormous following worldwide." The campaign is called "More Than a Goal. End Polio," which is a "play on Barcelona's motto, 'More Than a Club'" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/29)....Yankees 1B MARK TEIXEIRA has been "doing more than the average celebrity" since teaming up with the Harlem RBI charity several months ago. Harlem RBI Exec Dir RICH BERLIN said, "He's as engaged as any member of our board of directors. He comes to the meetings and sits on committees." Teixeira also "attends meetings with potential donors and gives his time to many public events" (MARKETWATCH.com, 7/29)....Indianapolis' Riley Hospital for Children Thursday "recognized NASCAR driver JEFF GORDON for his 10 years of support for its treatment and research programs." The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation "has donated more than $1.58 million to Riley" since '01. He also pledged another $1.5M in '10 "to establish the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation Pediatric Cancer Research Fund" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 7/29).
