Packers Receive Diamond-Studded Super Bowl XLV Rings

The Packers held a party at the Lambeau Field Atrium Thursday to “celebrate and present rings” for the team’s Super Bowl XLV victory, and the “final design was a ring made of platinum and 18-karat gold that weighs 116 grams and includes diamonds totaling 3.35 carats,” according to Pete Dougherty of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. The Packers “began designing the ring in February not long after they defeated” the Steelers in the Super Bowl. Each ring “has a crest of 92 diamonds to represent the 92 years of the franchise’s existence; 13 more diamonds embedded in the team’s ‘G’ logo on the front of the ring to represent each of the team’s NFL titles; and four more diamonds to signify the Packers’ four Super Bowls.” It also has “a representation of the Lombardi Trophy and Lambeau Field.” One side of the ring is “engraved with the player’s name and uniform number.” The inside is “engraved with the score of each of the team’s four postseason wins.” Dougherty notes the NFL “provides a stipend of $5,000 per ring for up to 150 rings, though the Packers provided rings not only for the football side of the organization but for every full-time employee, plus the board of directors and executive committee” (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 6/17). Packers President & CEO Mark Murphy said, "They wanted big and they wanted bling. We were successful in that." Packers CB Charles Woodson said, "It's the best ring I've ever seen and I'm not saying it because it's our night. It's an incredible ring" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 6/17).
