Vanderbeek, Chambers Confirm Talks About Devils, But No Deal Is Imminent

Devils majority Owner Jeff Vanderbeek is involved in “ongoing discussions” with investors Ray Chambers and Mike Gilfillan to purchase their share of the team, but “no deal is imminent,” according to a source cited by Tom Gulitti of the Bergen RECORD. Chambers and Gilfillan control Brick City LLC, the holding company that has been seeking a buyer for its 47% share of the Devils “since before it even announced its intention to sell on Feb. 1." Selling to Vanderbeek is "an option that they began exploring before that day." On Thursday, Chambers and Vanderbeek issued a joint statement in response to a N.Y. Post report that claimed the two were in advanced talks for Vanderbeek to purchase the 47% stake. Chambers and Vanderbeek said, "Today's report contained several gross factual inaccuracies. Our partnership has always provided the Devils with its utmost financial support and will continue to work together to that end going forward. In particular, The Post’s comments about valuation, wherewithal and forced buyout provisions are grossly inaccurate.” Gulitti noted the fact that Chambers and Vanderbeek issued a joint statement “appeared to demonstrate that they are working amicably toward a resolution” (NORTHJERSEY.com, 6/16).
