Final Nielsen Ratings: Fox Scores Gains For UEFA Champions League, MLB Primetime

Fox earned a 1.4 final Nielsen rating and 2.6 million viewers for last Saturday’s UEFA Champions League Final from 2:46-4:37pm ET, which saw FC Barcelona defeat Manchester United 3-1. Those figures are up 40% and 63%, respectively, from a 1.0 rating and 1.6 million viewers for the net’s Inter Milan-Bayern Munich telecast last year, which was its first soccer telecast. DC led all U.S. markets for Fox’ telecast (3.3 local rating), followed by Seattle-Tacoma (2.9). Fox Deportes drew 1.6 million viewers for its coverage of the final, marking the best audience ever for any event in the history of Spanish-language sports networks. Fox Saturday night earned a 2.4 final rating and 3.8 million viewers for its MLB primetime regional telecast. The corresponding week last year earned a 1.4 rating (2.1 million viewers) for an afternoon slot. Fox tied NBC for first among all nets in primetime. Fox averaged a 2.6 rating and 4.1 million viewers for its three MLB primetime windows this season, up 24% and 28%, respectively, from a 2.1 rating and 3.2 million viewers for last year’s two primetime windows. For Fox’ Saturday baseball telecasts to date, the network is averaging a 2.1 rating and 3.2 million viewers, up 11% and 12%, respectively, from a 1.9 rating and 2.9 million viewers at the same point last year. Fox is also seeing growth among all key male demos (THE DAILY).

The 9.1 rating is a 32% increase from a 6.9 average rating for the same period in '10 (CSN)....FS Arizona averaged a 5.1 local rating in the Phoenix market for Monday's Marlins-D'Backs game, marking the net's most-watched D'Backs telecast of the season (FSN).
