NFL Network Adding Mike Mayock As Game Analyst; Is Gus Johnson Next?

NFL Network will add analyst Mike Mayock to its "broadcast team for its eight-game Thursday Night Football package," replacing both Matt Millen and Joe Theismann, according to sources cited by Richard Deitsch of SI.com. Mayock is "one of the rising stars in sports broadcasting." He is "considered by most fans as television's leading NFL draft analyst and last year replaced Pat Haden as the analyst on NBC's Notre Dame football coverage." He also served as the analyst on NBC's coverage of the Seahawks-Saints NFC Wild Card playoff game in January. NFL Net's next move for its regular-season package "revolves around the play-by-play position." Bob Papa is a has held the job for the past two seasons, but sources indicated that NFL Net is "considering other broadcasters, including CBS and Big Ten announcer Gus Johnson." No formal announcement on Mayock or "any other possible changes is expected for a number of weeks" (SI.com, 4/14).
