Facility Notes

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie yesterday officially announced that development firm Triple Five Group will "take over the former Xanadu shopping and entertainment project, giving it a new name, a new exterior and 600,000 square feet more space." A Triple Five spokesperson said that the developer "plans to build an addition to the southeastern corner of the long-dormant project." The company already announced its intention to rename the project American Dream | Meadowlands and to "extensively renovate the facade" (NORTHJERSEY.com, 5/3).

TIME TO PAY UP: The Jefferson County (Ky.) Clerk's Office said that the Louisville Arena Authority "has failed to pay $34,154 in assessments to the Louisville Downtown Management District from last year and faces an additional $21,166 in penalties and fees." In Louisville, Marcus Green notes the arena authority is "exempt from property taxes but is required to make payments, based on the assessed value of the KFC Yum! Center, to the management district, which uses the fees to provide services such as general security, cleaning and maintenance downtown" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 5/4).

WATCHING THE SCOREBOARD: The Univ. of Kentucky Board of Trustees yesterday "approved a plan to spend $6.25 million on new video scoreboards and a sound system at Commonwealth Stadium." The project "will be paid for entirely with private funds." An earlier proposal "had called for the project to be funded in part with a loan from UK at a variable interest rate" initially set at 1.64% (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 5/4).

YOU'VE GOT QUESTIONS, WE'VE GOT ANSWERS: In New Jersey, Kara Yorio noted fans attending any event at Prudential Center "can enjoy hot dogs or sausage on gluten-free buns, as well as other gluten-free items." The Devils debuted gluten-free options at the start of the '10-11 NHL season, and now it is "not just there for Devils games, it's available during any event at The Rock." Yorio noted the initiative came about when Devils Chair & Managing Partner Jeff Vanderbeek "went to the Prudential Center's concessionaire and asked what they knew about gluten-free food" (NORTHJERSEY.com, 5/3).
