Chelsea MF FRANK LAMPARD is among several players from EPL clubs “spearheading a campaign to rid English football of anti-Semitism.” Lampard has joined Tottenham D LEDLEY KING and Arsenal D KIERAN GIBBS in a one-minute film, “written and produced by DAVID and IVOR BADDIEL, which tackles anti-Jewish abuse.” The Kick It Out campaign “is behind the new initiative which targets chants of 'Yiddo' by Tottenham fans, many of whom are Jewish themselves” (ESPNSOCCERNET.com, 4/14).

POLICY CHANGES: Mavericks Owner MARK CUBAN, former NFL Commissioner PAUL TAGLIABUE and NFL Giants Treasurer JONATHAN TISCH were among “20 prominent Americans to nominate elegant policy fixes” for the U.S. in this week's NEWSWEEK. Cuban suggested the U.S. “streamline entrepreneurial paperwork,” while Tagliabue noted the country should increase the "visa cap for highly skilled workers." Tisch wants the U.S. to issue “more tourist-visa waivers” (NEWSWEEK, 4/18 issue).

CHARITY STRIPE: In Phoenix, Bob Young reported Nelnet Vice Chair and Arizona State Univ. alum STEVE BUTTERFIELD is the “anonymous donor” who “put up the cash to purchase” the school's new uniforms. Butterfield is a “longtime supporter and a member of the Sun Angel Foundation.” Young noted in addition to the new black uniforms for ASU teams, there “may be some new stuff in copper coming within the next couple of years” (AZCENTRAL.com, 4/14)....ESPN’s BOBBY VALENTINE has partnered with AmeriCares to “provide aid to earthquake-ravaged Japan, where he had spent seven years managing the Chiba Lotte Marines.” Valentine and AmeriCares have “sent more than 14 tons of medicine to the island nation in three shipments, including the airlift that landed April 4” (STAMFORD ADVOCATE, 4/15).

NAMES: The MLB Giants have launched a World Series ring raffle, with proceeds going to the team's Community Fund. The raffle, conducted by Celebrities for Charity, requires a minimum purchase of $10 and ends July 26 (Giants)....Bulls G DERRICK ROSE, F JOAKIM NOAH and former G B.J. ARMSTRONG Thursday attended a fundraiser for President BARACK OBAMA at Navy Pier's Grand Ballroom in Chicago (CHICAGOBREAKINGNEWS.com, 4/15)....MICHAEL KRZYZANIAK, who was “convicted of fraud in 1993,” has been “accused of running several more wide-ranging schemes that bilked at least $20 million from people,” including golfer PHIL MICKELSON. A federal indictment unsealed Thursday alleged that Krzyzaniak “has been soliciting investors since 2003 for projects that included a golf resort in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and a NASCAR-style track in Elko, Minn.” (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/15)…. IN MEMORY: Golf Digest co-Founder JOHN BARNETT passed away last Sunday at the age of 89 at his home in Houston. WILLIAM DAVIS "started Golf Digest in 1950 and later asked" Barnett and HOWARD GILL "to join when he needed more manpower." By May 1952, Golf Digest was a "nationally published magazine." Barnett was the "last surviving co-founder of Golf Digest" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 4/15).
