Texas ADs Dodds, Plonsky To Receive Pay Raises, Contract Extensions

Univ. of Texas men’s AD DeLoss Dodds and women’s AD Chris Plonsky “will soon be getting pay raises and contract extensions,” according to John Maher of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. Dodds “will get a raise of $72,891, upping his base salary to $700,000.” That “should keep him in the top 10 earners” among ADs. His new contract will “run through Aug. 31, 2015, but a provision has been added that, after serving as athletic director, Dodds, 72, could be employed part-time in another capacity at UT through Aug. 31, 2020, with a $100,000 yearly salary and benefits.” Dodds also would receive a $1M “annuity after taxes if he is still employed by UT in some capacity on Aug. 31, 2014.” His current contract “calls for a $750,000 annuity to be paid this year.” Plonsky's salary “will remain at $265,848 for a contract that will be extended through 2017,” but her “supplement for work for the men's program will jump from $40,000 to $90,000 per year.” Plonsky, 52, also could receive “an annual $62,500 windfall from a provision added to her contract that would pay that amount if no major NCAA infractions are committed.” Dodds' current contract “includes a bonus for not running afoul of the NCAA, but the incentive for that will be raised from $50,000 to $62,500.” Dodds will receive the “exact same bump in an incentive for financial solvency.” Plonsky's new contract gives her a bonus of 6% of her annual salary “if the UT football team plays in a BCS bowl” and 4% “for a non-BCS bowl game.” Plonsky would also receive a “second car (her current contract calls for the use of one) or a $7,500 payment” (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 2/13).
