T-Shirt Commemorating UConn Women's BBall Streak A Hot Seller

Shoppers "lined up outside the UConn Co-op bookstore in Storrs Wednesday morning" in hopes of "snagging a blue Nike T-shirt with the numeral '89' and a basketball emblazoned on the front," according to Janice Podsada of the HARTFORD COURANT. When the store opened at 8:00am ET, it had a "couple of thousand of the T-shirts commemorating" the Univ. of Connecticut women's basketball team's 89-game winning streak. UConn Co-op Marketing Manager Marcia Firsick said the store was "down to 20" by 10:30am. More than 1,000 orders were placed for the T-shirts on the co-op's website, and the store by mid-morning "had posted a disclaimer next to the coveted T-shirt: 'Due to overwhelming demand for this item, we are currently sold out.'" The store "tried to get another delivery of T-shirts from Nike, but was unable to score." The next shipment is "expected to arrive Tuesday." Meanwhile, Huskywear.com Owner Scott Yeager said that the 300 "89" T-shirts he offered online Tuesday night "sold out in seven minutes" (HARTFORD COURANT, 12/23).
