Reebok Activates Around Vince Young’s Pro Bowl Appearance

By Jeremy Caslin, Staff Writer

Reebok Running Campaign Around
Young’s Pro Bowl Selection
Reebok this week launched a regional congratulatory ad campaign for Titans QB Vince Young’s invitation to play in the NFL Pro Bowl following Chargers QB Philip Rivers’ withdrawal due to injury. The campaign’s tagline, “Are You ConVINCEd?,” appears on a billboard erected over I-24 in Nashville, on T-shirts handed out by Young at Academy Sports establishments in Nashville, Houston and Austin, and on banner ads at Tennessean.com, Knoxnews.com and Commercialappeal.com. Reebok does not plan to extend the campaign to Hawaii, but is considering activating in a small way in Houston. Reebok VP/Sports & Entertainment Marketing Todd Krinsky, who was in Miami with Young last Friday when he found out about his late invitation to the Pro Bowl, said the company was prepared for the possibility of having to quickly launch a campaign. Krinsky: “We’d started talking about it weeks prior. We knew he was being talked about.” Krinsky added, “It wasn’t that hard to implement. It’s much easier to do things when they’re regional.”

HAWAII AND BEYOND: Reebok plans to use Young as one of ten athletes from basketball, football and soccer as part of a national campaign in April and May. Young, who will be in L.A. in two weeks to film a TV spot for that initiative, will also showcase a signature Reebok shoe on-field during a Titans game next season, which the company hopes will be a nationally-televised game.
