In Philadelphia, Don Steinberg cites SportScanInfo data that indicates Nike’s Air Jordan XX, which debuted February 20 during NBA All-Star Weekend, surpassed Carmelo Anthony’s Jordan Brand shoes and LeBron James’ Nikes “to become America’s top-selling basketball sneaker” in the final week of February. The XX also had the highest price per pair at $170.96 (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 3/8).

SWING DANCE: ESPN’s Neil Everett reported Tiger Woods “made swing changes to his” EA Sports videogame. Everett: “EA Sports hadn’t done a motion-capture shoot on Tiger’s swing in four years, so in order to get the most accurate depiction of Tiger’s new swing, EA Sports strapped him up in this motion-capture suit, bringing the new and improved Tiger swing to life in the 2006 version of ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour’” (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 3/7).

PUMA: BRANDWEEK’s Sandra O’Loughlin reports Puma “will launch a global TV campaign” that runs through May 22 to push new spring shoes and sportswear. TV ads will run nationally on Fuse, MTV2, Fuel, Comedy Central and G4/Tech TV, and regionally in N.Y., L.A., Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia, S.F. and Miami. Costs of the campaign were not revealed, but Puma North America Dir of Marketing Barney Waters said that spending “‘has grown’ with sales increases.” Nielsen Monitor-Plus data indicates that Puma spent $8M on media in ’04, and worldwide sales rose 21.3% for FY ’04 (BRANDWEEK, 3/7 issue).
