PADRES' "PARK AT THE PARK" PLANS PRESENTED TO PUBLIC

The Padres presented plans for an eight-acre park near
their planned downtown ballpark that will feature a sand
volleyball court and lawn amphitheater and will "look, feel
and taste like San Diego," according to Padres execs cited
by Karen Kucher of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The team
said the park "will cater to downtown residents and visitors
on nongame days." On game days, Padres ticket holders will
be able to "stroll through the park area, which will be
lined with restaurants and retail shops," while "up to"
3,000 park-goers will be able to buy $5 park passes and
watch the Padres "from lawn chairs, picnic tables and
blankets in the park," which will also have a large color
video screen to show the game. The Padres' bullpen will be
"just beyond" the fence in left-center field, and the park
will have an "autograph alley" where fans can have a close
view of warm-ups and seek autographs. There will also be a
"kids' entertainment zone," which would feature batting
cages and pitching radar guns. On non-game days, the park
will be open for public use (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 1/28).
