MEDIA NOTES

          TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of CNN/SI's
     "Sports Tonight" led with Blazers-Heat, followed by Hornets-
     Hawks. The first non-NBA story, at 6:23 into the broadcast,
     was Red Sox P Pedro Martinez winning the AL Cy Young Award. 
     The first NHL story, at 26:26, was Sabres-Penguins.  ESPN's
     11:00pm ET "SportsCenter" led with Blazers-Heat, followed by
     Pacers-Spurs.  The first non-NBA story, at 8:00, was the
     Notre Dame-OH State Univ. men's basketball game.  The first
     NHL story, at 18:44, was Sabres-Penguins.  FSN's 11:00pm ET
     "Primetime" led with Pacers-Spurs, followed by Blazers-Heat. 
     The first non-NBA story, at 6:45, was Notre Dame-OSU.  The
     first NHL story, at 51:28, was Sabres-Penguins (THE DAILY). 
          NOTES: ABC's "MNF" broadcast of the Jets-Patriots game
     received a 13.4/22 national Nielsen rating (THE DAILY).
     DAILY VARIETY's Bierbaum & Schneider write that the game
     drew "ho-hum results" with an 8.1/22 rating among adults 18-
     49 (DAILY VARIETY, 11/17).  In N.Y., Richard Sandomir goes
     behind the scenes of a "MNF" broadcast and writes that the
     "absence" of Dan Dierdorf is "turning" Al Michaels and
     Boomer Esiason "into an increasingly viable team.  They
     appear to like each other" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/17). ...GOLF
     WORLD reports that Ben Crenshaw has signed a "six-figure
     book deal" with Doubleday.  The autobiography is scheduled
     to be released next month (GOLF WORLD, 11/19).
