DAS ES GOOD? ADIDAS TO LAUNCH TWO ALTERNATIVE SUB-BRANDS

adidas has two "'alternative' sub-brands in the works,"
including the "Das" label, which will "hit American retail
shelves next spring," and a "global casual brand, which may
go under" the "Trefoil" logo but "won't reach retail until
2001," according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK. The "Das"
collection is "set to roll out in the U.S. at specialty
retail, especially urban apparel stores ... and alt stores."
"Das," which is "predominantly an apparel line," is being
positioned as "less fashion-oriented" and more of adidas'
extension into alternative sports. "Das" shoes will carry
the adidas logos, but the apparel won't. adidas-Salomon
Chair Robert Louis Dreyfus told analysts that the company
had "earmarked" about $3.5M "toward design and development"
of the global "aftersport" brand in 2000 (BRANDWEEK, 11/15).
