JONES TELLS USA TODAY THAT OWNERS MAY TABLE NFL EXPANSION

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that he expects NFL
owners to "delay any decision on expansion until next
spring," according to USA TODAY's Gordon Forbes. Jones:
"This would give us time to get both [L.A. and Houston]
done. Move a team into one market and expand into the
other. We need an NFL city in both cities. There is a lot
of sentiment in the minds of the owners that this is not
about only one city. The logic here is that we really have
resolved the easiest part, where to put an expansion team.
That's Houston, because L.A. isn't there yet" (USA TODAY,
9/24). Fred Edelstein tells USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke: "If
Marvin Davis goes through with his $1 billion deal for a
[L.A.] NFL team, he'll be backed by Denver's Pat Bowlen and
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue" (USA TODAY, 9/24).
TALKING $$: New Coliseum Partner Ed Roski said that the
NFL is "focusing less on location and stadium design and
more on the hard numbers" of a franchise fee: "It seems to
me, right now it's boiling down to the dollar amount.
They're going to analyze who's willing to pay what and how
does that fit into their program" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/24).
