FRANCHISE NOTES

Percy "Master P" Miller said that "contrary to rumors,
he has no intention of trying to buy" the Hornets from Owner
George Shinn (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 3/10). But Miller
does tell Gregg Krupa of the BOSTON GLOBE that he "will
announce later this week that he has joined" the Hornets as
a player (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/10). Hornets VP/PR Harold Kaufman
told THE DAILY this morning that he "was not aware" of
Miller signing with the team (THE DAILY)....Prospective
Royals Owner Miles Prentice said he remains "confident" MLB
owners will OK his bid for the team, despite repeated delays
in the approval process: "I haven't received any
discouraging vibes from anyone in baseball. And our group
of investors is not discouraged in the least" (K.C. STAR,
3/10)....In Buffalo, Kevin Collison wrote that the Sabres
have asked "public officials to write off" their investment
in the Marine Midland Arena and "repay bank loans estimated
at" $70M. The team claims it lost $15M per year from '95-
97, about $12M last year and "is on pace to lose" $15M this
year (BUFFALO NEWS, 3/7)....Richard Petty will attend his
first Hurricanes game tonight at "Richard Petty Night,"
where he will drive a modified Zamboni. Less than 2,000
tickets remain for the nationally televised game, the Canes'
first of the year (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 3/10).
