THE RAVENS KNOCKING, KNOCKING ON CHAMBER DOOR FOR NEW LOOK

          The Ravens are planning to "modify the look of their
     uniforms" as a lawsuit concerning the team's logo is mired
     in the appeals process, according to Gary Lambrecht of the
     Baltimore SUN.  The Ravens are currently appealing a $10M
     damages award given to a MD artist by a federal jury after
     he claimed to have created the team's logo of a shield
     sporting wings with a "B" at its center.  The new logo,
     which has been seen on the front pocket area of players'
     pants, will feature a shield that "resembles" a police
     badge, partitioned into quarters occupied by a "B" and "R"
     and a "cross buttony."  Ravens President David Modell: "The
     [appeals] process is so lengthy.  I don't feel my team
     should go into battle under a contested mark" (SUN, 2/13).
