TUNA COMES WITH A WHALE OF A PROBLEM: PARCELLS IRKED AT SI

Jets head coach Bill Parcells is "not happy" about
being on the cover of the current issue of SI, according to
Paul Needell of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. Parcells: "Yeah, I
requested purposely not to be on that cover. I said I
really didn't want to do the article if it was going to be
on the cover. As recently as last week, I took a photo for
them with a guarantee that it would not be on the cover.
But they elected to do that anyway, so you can imagine how I
feel about it." SI Senior publicist Joseph Assad: "We're
sorry that coach Parcells is upset, but we can't determine
what's on the cover in advance." Parcells, notoriously
superstitious, said that he had his "own personal reasons"
for not wanting to be on the cover (Newark STAR-LEDGER,
12/10). The cover shows Parcells above the tag: "Wall to
Wall Football," with the subhead, "Bill Parcells: Tough SOB,
Super Coach" (THE DAILY). Don Imus, commenting this AM:
"Just don't pose for the photograph, coach. If you don't
want it, just don't [do it]" ("Imus in the Morning," 12/10).
