OLYMPIC NOTES: SLOC'S NEW HIRE; AMBUSH BY WASATCH BREWING?

The SLOC has hired Kevin Donovan to "create a single
visual identity for the 2002 Winter Olympics," according to
Mike Gorrell of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. Donovan, who was
Creative Dir at All-American SportPark in Las Vegas, will be
in charge of coordinating the design of everything from
street banners to volunteer uniforms. Donovan started with
SLOC on Monday (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 12/8).
BIG BREW-HA? Schirf Brewing Co., maker of Wasatch
beers, has added "Wasatch `Unofficial' 2002 Amber Ale" to
its line of beers -- "and apparently struck upon a strong
seller," according to Guy Boulton of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE.
The label reads: "As the unofficial beer of a certain event
that will take place a year after 2001, we cannot offer
international logos or trademarks. We can, however, proudly
offer this locally brewed amber ale. It may be unofficial,
but we think you'll agree -- it tastes like a gold medal
winner." But the USOC plans to act. USOC Dir of PR Mike
Moran: "They obviously think a combination of public
sentiment and humor will muddy the waters on this and that
we will just go away" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 12/6).
