MILESTONE: ATP CHIEF ANNOUNCES DEAL WITH SUPER NINE TOURNEYS

          ATP Tour CEO Mark Miles announced yesterday in Hanover,
     Germany, that the Tour and the Super 9 Tournaments have
     formed a joint venture for the pooling of their commercial
     rights.  The deal's principle goals: create a new brand of
     men's pro tennis, composed of the Tour's elite events;
     control a greater package of tournament rights to attract
     more global sponsors who will invest in the promotion of the
     game; enable the Tour flexibility to create a more
     recognizable look for its elite Tournament Series; and
     ensure ongoing financial growth for the Tour (ATP).  
          '99 SLATE: The WTA Tour released its '99 schedule
     yesterday, which will include 59 events in 27 countries. 
     Prize money will be more than $45M, a 12% increase from '98,
     marking the 28th consecutive year the figure will increase. 
     New sites in China, Indonesia, Portugal, Belgium and
     Uzbekistan have been added to the '99 schedule.  New title
     sponsors for Tour events include Swisscom on the Tier I
     level, along with Westel, Eurotel and Sanex (WTA).
