ANGELOS JOINS OTHER BIDDERS AS REDSKINS RECEIVE FORMAL OFFERS

"About 10 would-be buyers, some valuing the Washington
Redskins at more than $500 million, made their intentions
known yesterday to buy the team and Jack Kent Cooke Stadium,"
according to Thomas Heath in a front-page report in the
WASHINGTON POST. Heath writes that "most of the offers that
came in yesterday were in the form of a stock purchase" where
the buyer would pay for the team and assume the mortgage on
Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, which is about $155M. Several
bidders "appear" to have made stock offers that exceeded the
$530M Al Lerner paid for the Browns. Sources said that
Orioles Owner Peter Angelos put in a bid of "about" $475M.
Heath writes that trustees for the estate of the late Jack
Kent Cooke "are hoping" the franchise and stadium sell for
$600M or more. The field of bidders will be narrowed to five
"in the next few days," and then a second round of bidding
will take place" (Thomas Heath, WASHINGTON POST, 11/24).
