IMS/IRL DROP GREEN FLAG ON NEW SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and the IRL are
"hoping a new program" called "Promotional Partners" will
"expand corporate sponsorships," according to Bill Koenig of
SPEEDNET. The program involves a sponsor's commitment to a
"variety of marketing forums, including minimum spending on"
TV broadcasts, track signs and corporate hospitality tents.
Pennzoil and Coors, two IMS partners, have already signed on
as "Promotional Partners." IMS VP/Sales & Marketing John
Newcomb said six other partners will be announced shortly.
IMS's goal is to have a total of 12 partners for the '99
season and eventually up to 20. Newcomb is hoping the new
program will lead to additional support for the IRL's teams.
The IRL has also recently "reached an agreement with
Princeton Video Image to create 'virtual' ads for telecasts
of all IRL races." Slots will be available for two
"virtual" advertisers at each race (SPEEDNET, 10/22).
