SIGNS OF LIFE AFTER WHALERS BECOME EXTINCT IN HARTFORD

          Despite the Whalers relocating to NC, attendance at the
     Hartford Civic Center has "climbed nearly 12 percent this
     past year," according to Mike Swift of the HARTFORD COURANT. 
     The results have been fueled by an increase in concerts,
     along with minor league hockey and other events.  MSG, which
     took over management of the arena in August of '97, has
     "kept the turnstile spinning with big-name concert acts,
     women's basketball and attractions such as professional
     wrestling."  With more concerts booked and the AHL Wolf Pack
     playing into late May, MSG said the Civic Center had 15 more
     events in '97-98 than in the previous year.  But revenues
     for the CT Development Authority, which leases the arena
     from the city of Hartford, is "off slightly" because "fewer
     skyboxes were rented and rental fees had to be dropped" when
     the Whalers left (Mike Swift, HARTFORD COURANT, 9/22).
