NORELCO LOOKS TO MINORS: INKS DEAL WITH NEW PACK OF PLAYERS

Beginning this fall, five members of the AHL Hartford
Wolf Pack will be featured in an ad campaign for Norelco
razors, according to Kevin Oklobzija of THE HOCKEY NEWS, who
writes, "This will be no small-time ad campaign," as Norelco
plans to buy time on ABC's "MNF" and ads in SI and GQ. Wolf
Pack Exec VP/Operations Tom Mitchell: "My first question
was, 'Why are you not going to the New York Rangers or the
Montreal Canadiens?' They said the cost of working with
major-league teams had gotten too high." Oklobzija reports
that Norelco's ad agency first approached the Wolf Pack in
the spring and asked management to hand out its new razor,
but not tell the players the brand. The players were asked
to use the razor for three weeks, then respond to a survey
for which they were paid $75. Players were then selected
from their responses, and will earn "upwards" of $10,000 for
their time in the commercial (THE HOCKEY NEWS, 9/11 issue).
