UTAH RESIDENTS LOVE ALL THAT JAZZ, BUT DON'T SEE STARZZ

Dan Jones & Associates conducted a survey of 407 UT adults to determine sports interests in that state, according to Rich Evans of the DESERET NEWS. Asked to rate sports leagues on a scale ranging from "not at all interested" to "very interested," 39% of Utahns were very interested in the NBA, while "only" 9% had no interest. The WNBA registered almost the opposite, as 6% were very interested as opposed to 34% who were not interested at all. The results placed the WNBA lower than NASCAR -- at 7% very interested -- but higher than the NHL -- with "only" 5% were very interested. Evans wrote that the NFL's popularity was "somewhat surprising," with 26% saying they were very interested, 2% better than college basketball. When asked to name their three favorite teams, 60% made the Jazz their first choice, with BYU football second at 13% and Univ. of Utah football third at 7%. The Starzz had no respondents naming them as their favorite team (DESERET NEWS, 8/30).
