U.S. OPEN, II: WTA'S WALLFLOWERS; SELES TO HIT WALL STREET

          The WTA Tour will unveil a wall calendar featuring both
     on-court and off-court photos next week at the U.S. Open. 
     The 16-month, 12" x 12" calendar will feature photos of 20
     of the tour's top players, including Martina Hingis, Steffi
     Graf, Monica Seles, Anna Kournikova and Venus and Serena
     Williams.  The calendar, which retails for $11.95, will be
     sold on-site at the Open and will be available worldwide in
     mid-September at several chain bookstores (WTA Tour).
          STARTER READY TO GO: By way of its "private-label
     venture" with the USTA, Starter will supply U.S. Open logoed
     T-shirts and fleece items on-site at the tournament.  SGB's
     Cory Bronson reports that Starter has "put considerable
     emphasis" on its off-site efforts, and will send mailings to
     ship its U.S. Open products to tennis accounts off-site in
     addition to targeting existing Starter accounts (SGB, 8/24).
          NOTES: Chase Manhattan Bank CEO Walter Shipley and
     Monica Seles will ring the opening bell to start trading at
     the NYSE on Monday (WTA)....The USTA took out a full-page ad
     in the N.Y. Times promoting the Open (THE DAILY).
