FRANCHISE NOTES

          The DESERET NEWS reported that the Jazz will have a set
     of black road uniforms to be used for 12 games during the
     upcoming season.  The uniform is black, with copper trim,
     and says "Jazz" across the front; missing are the mountains
     in the background (DESERET NEWS, 8/11)....Devil Rays part-
     Owner Bill Griffin received a five-month prison sentence
     yesterday "for his part in a campaign finance scandal."  His
     attorneys said yesterday in court that now "a felon,"
     Griffin will "likely" have to give up his ownership interest
     in the Devil Rays (ST. PETE TIMES, 8/12)....In Cincinnati,

     Managing Exec John Allen and GM Jim Bowden under the header,
     "'Turf War' Between Bowden, Allen" (CINCI. ENQUIRER, 8/12).
