OAKLAND AND ALAMEDA COUNTY TO PAY $20M ON SPORTS COMPLEXES

Oakland and Alameda County will "probably have to come
up" with $10.5M apiece to subsidize their jointly owned
sports complex this year, according to Rick DelVecchio of
the S.F. CHRONICLE. A new $39.3M budget approved yesterday
by the Authority calls for contributions of "almost" $21M
from the two agencies for the FY that began July 1. The
"bills are largely a result of the costs" of relocating the
Raiders and retaining the A's in '95. The "heaviest hit" on
the city and county will come from debt payments of $16.7M
for the stadium. The budget also includes $2.2M for legal
expenses as it currently faces disputes with both teams.
The city "has cash set aside to cover most of its portion of
this year's subsidy, but the reserves run out next year."
Money would then have to come from the city's general fund
(S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/24). In Oakland, Laura Counts reported
that the subsidy is targeted toward the Raiders deal and
that the newly renovated Coliseum Arena will not require a
     subsidy (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 7/23).
