NBA LOCKOUT, PART I: USA TODAY HAS TELLEM MEETING WITH CBS

Agent Arn Tellem, representing the NBPA, met with CBS
Sports President Sean McManus on Thursday night "to discuss
the network televising potential players' games in the fall,
some in Europe, during the NBA lockout," according to USA
TODAY's Rudy Martzke. Tellem told Martzke that ESPN has
"also shown an interest" in covering the games (USA TODAY,
7/13). Asked at the annual Cable Press Tour, ESPN's Exec
VP/Programming Dick Glover said that the all-sports network
"has no intention of televising" a new pro basketball league
of locked-out players (John Dempsey, DAILY VARIETY, 7/13).
          INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS: USA Basketball spokesperson
Craig Miller said that USAB's decision not to let NBC and
Turner Sports televise the World Championships was due to
"concern over what a weakened team would mean to its
marketing efforts." Turner Sports spokesperson Kevin
O'Malley agreed and said, "It was not [USAB's] inclination
to televise the games. Nor was it ours" (BLOOMBERG, 7/10).
