BOND SALE MAY HELP STEELERS MAKE STADIUM CONTRIBUTION

Allegheny County Commissioner Bob Cranmer said
Wednesday that if the Steelers help sell "stadium investment
bonds," as they indicated they would, "it would count toward
their share" of the $803M city/county proposal to build new
football and baseball stadiums and other developments,
according to Tom Barnes of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. By
buying bonds, local companies could buy elements of the
stadium, "such as seats or a scoreboard, and receive tax
benefits as those assets depreciate." Another element of
the financing proposal would let "investors secure exclusive
rights to stadium concessions." Cranmer said that if the
Steelers could sell $20-25M in bonds, it could be added to
their previous commitment of $50M, "raising it to the level
of [$70-75M] he's been pressuring them to provide." The
team had no comment, and Barnes wrote that no one with the
Steelers "has been willing to say" how they would raise
     their $50M commitment (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 6/19).
