          N.Y. investment banking firm Leucadia National Corp.
     yesterday acquired nearly $7M in stock in the Pimlico and
     Laurel, MD, racetracks from the estate of the late Jack Kent
     Cooke.  Leucadia is seen as a "friendly" investor and
     Pimlico President Joe De Francis will continue managing the
     tracks (WASHINGTON POST, 6/12)...MONEY profiles Motorsports
     Associates Growth & Income Fund, a new mutual fund looking
     to "capitalize on auto racing's popularity."  Of the fund's
     250 stocks, "only a half-dozen" are "actually in the
     motorsports business," with the rest sponsors and automakers
     with an "indirect connection" to racing (MONEY, 7/98 issue).
