TODAY COULD BE THE DAY OF RECKONING FOR LIGHTNING/DAVIDSON

Pistons President Tom Wilson disputed a Tampa TV report
Sunday that Lightning Owner Takashi Okubo has signed an
agreement to sell the team to Pistons Owner William
Davidson, according to Tim Buckley of the ST. PETERSBURG
TIMES. Wilson: "We haven't seen anything at all. We didn't
expect to see anything until [Monday] morning anyway, so
right now there's nothing to it" (ST. PETE TIMES, 5/18). In
Tampa, Ira Kaufman reported Sunday that Davidson "has been
assured" that Okubo would sign a $130M purchase agreement.
Wilson: "My understanding is we'll wrap this up Monday."
Any agreement "would not be binding for several weeks" as
Davidson will look "to modify existing Lightning agreements
with major creditors and vendors" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 5/17).
