HUNT NAVIGATES CREW THROUGH NEW WATERS: SIGNS 25-YEAR LEASE

The OH Expositions Commission voted 6-2 Friday in favor
of entering into a 25-year lease that would allow Crew
Soccer Stadium Ltd. Liability Corp. to build a 22,500-seat
stadium on Expo Center land, according to Steve Stephens of
the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. The company would spend an estimated
$15M-17M to build the stadium and would pay the Expo Center
$50,000 a year plus a percentage of parking revenue. The
MLS Crew will be the primary tenant of the stadium, which
has a 25-year renewal option. The State Controlling Board,
which will have a "personal guarantee" from Crew Owner Lamar
Hunt, will vote on the measure today. Should the Crew fold
or leave town, the stadium corporation would be allowed to
find another major tenant (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 5/17).
