EARLY POLL SHOWS PITTSBURGH OPPOSED TO STADIUM PLAN B

          The Pittsburgh-Allegheny County proposal to use county
     sales and hotel tax revenues to help finance two new
     stadiums and a larger convention center "took it on the
     chin" in a poll taken last week of 822 Allegheny County
     residents, according to Tom Barnes of the PITTSBURGH POST-
     GAZETTE.  The PA poll found that 55% of the respondents
     opposed the use of existing tax revenues to help pay for the
     three major projects, while 32% favored Plan B and 13% were
     undecided.  The breakdown of men vs. women respondents was
     "somewhat surprising," as 58% of male respondents voted in
     opposition to the plan, with 33% in favor, while among
     women, opposition was 52%, with 31% in favor.  Barnes added
     that city residents "were a little more likely" to favor
     Plan B than suburbanites (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 5/15).
