RACING NEWS & NOTES: SPRINT IN THE PITS WITH NEW PROMO

           Sprint will give five contest winners the opportunity
     to witness NASCAR racing from pit row and a chance to win
     $1M, according to NATIONAL SPEED SPORT NEWS.  Throughout the
     season, with the purchase of a Spree Pre-paid Foncard,
     customers will have the chance to win the position of
     Honorary Crew Chief on Kyle Petty's team at one of five
     Winston Cup races.  If Petty wins that day's race, the crew
     chief winner will receive a $1M annuity (NSSN, 4/8 issue).
          NOTES: In DC, Dave Sell writes an extensive examination
     of the marketing of NASCAR under the header, "Advertising At
     200 MPH: NASCAR Cars Are Billboards On Wheels That Generate
     Millions Of Dollars."  Sell breaks-down each sponsorship and
     writes that sponsors "play a more prominent role in NASCAR
     than other sports because of the way the money flows"
     (WASHINGTON POST, 4/17)....As part of NASCAR's 50th
     Anniversary, Blue Bunny, a trademark of Wells' Dairy Inc.,
     has debuted the new Thunder Bar.  The chocolate-covered ice
     cream bar is wrapped in a commemorative NASCAR package
     (NASCAR)....RJR-backed Team Winston will sponsor female NHRA
     Motorcycle racer Angelle Seeling (USA TODAY, 4/17).
