DIAMONDBACKS ON THE SOLES OF THEIR SHOES? LOGO-MANIA HITS AZ

The D'Backs will use "at least three different logos"
this season, according to Pedro Gomez of the ARIZONA
REPUBLIC. There is the "well-known A" logo which has been
predominantly seen. Other logos include a "scripted D,
formed by the body of a snake," which will only appear on
batting helmets this season, though there are plans for it
to be on a cap for the '99 season. Also, the uniform will
have an arm patch to signify the inaugural season. The
patch features a snake's head with a baseball in its mouth.
D'Backs Senior VP/Sales & Marketing Scott Brubaker: "We
still hang our hat, so to speak, on our A. That's our main
mark, and we have it consistently through everything. But
we also have a lot going on different items and want to
brand them separately. ... We found the snake mark pretty
popular, particularly with kids" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 2/25).
