TURNER LOOKING FOR NEW AD DEALS TO ACCOMPANY NBA TV DEAL

Turner Broadcasting, "seeking new four-year NBA ad
deals that would extend through the 2000-01 seasons, has
begun talks with automakers and athletic shoe companies,"
according to Langdon Brockinton of MEDIAWEEK. Under the
network's existing NBA TV contract, which expires after the
current season, Nike, Fila and Reebok share national
commercial time allocated to the sneaker category. In the
automotive category, Chrysler, GM, Lexus, Isuzu, Hyundai and
Ford are current national advertisers (MEDIAWEEK, 1/12).
ADIDAS DEAL: Brockinton also reports that adidas has
reached an agreement with NBC to advertise on its NBA
coverage from the '98-99 through the 2001-02 seasons. The
deal gives adidas two 30-second spots per telecast. Terms
were not disclosed, but sources estimated the price tag at
"about" $90M. The company will advertise on NBC's NBA
telecasts for the first time (MEDIAWEEK, 1/12 issue).
