Sports Industrialists

          The SLOC has named STEVE WILLIAMS as its Dir of Sponsor
     Services.  Williams, formerly CEO of the Children's Miracle
     Network, will serve as a liaison between SLOC and OPUS.  He
     will coordinate advertising and promotion of Olympic sponsors
     and supplier programs and their involvement in the 2002 Games
     (DESERET NEWS, 11/18)....DALE GARDNER, LISA ANTONUCCI and JAY
     COFFIN have joined GOLFWEEK's editorial staff.  Gardner is
     the new Associate Editor of Business, Antonucci fills a newly
     created Staff Writer position and Coffin takes over as
     Scoreboard Editor (GOLFWEEK, 11/15 issue)....JIM CORMIER
     joined Head USA, Inc. as Dir of Footwear Operations Worldwide
     (TENNIS WEEK, 11/20 issue).....MLB named DICK BRESCIANI,
     VP/Public Affairs for the Red Sox, the '97 winner of its
     Robert O. Fishel Award for Public Relations Excellence (MLB).

          Sports agent DAVID FISHOF is the target of a $25M
     sexual-harassment suit by a former employee, SARA SCHUB (N.Y.
     POST, 11/19)....In MN, 2,500 fans worked as movie extras at
     the Metrodome for the filming of "MAJOR LEAGUE III" (PIONEER
     PRESS, 11/19)....ESPN's STUART SCOTT is profiled in VIBE. 
     Scott "has become the latest in a long line of ESPN stars by
     saturating his broadcasts with hip hop slanguage. ... And
     he's representing the black athlete and the black sports fan
     in a world dominated by the Bob Costas-Marv Albert school of
     sportscasting" (VIBE, 12/97)....Tennis' PATRICK RAFTER is
     named in PEOPLE's "Sexiest Man Alive" issue (PEOPLE, 11/19).
     ....Bonus Books has released, "Agassi & Ecstasy: The
     turbulent life of ANDRE AGASSI," written by former tennis
     writer and Las Vegas Review Journal assistant sports editor
     PAUL BAUMAN (LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL, 11/18)....Former NBA
     player/U.S. Congressman TOM MCMILLAN "is under investigation
     on fraud issues."  McMillan is Chair of the DC-based Complete
     Wellness Centers (N.Y. POST, 11/19).
