UTAHNS NOT CONVINCED 2002 WINTER GAMES CAN PAY THE BILLS

Utahns appear "ambivalent" about hosting the 2002
Winter Games, and a majority "do not believe" the Olympics
"will pay for itself," according to Terry Orme of the SALT
LAKE TRIBUNE. The poll was conducted through October for
the Tribune by UT-based Valley Research. When asked if they
would go through the process of seeking the Olympic bid
again given what they know now, 53% of respondents said yes
and 41% said no. The poll also found that "just more than
half doubt that Olympic organizers can raise the money to
pay for the Games." The poll has a margin of error of +/-
     4.5% (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 11/9).
